How to play SpermRace
Updated November 2026
SpermRace is a battle royale you play in the browser. Everyone starts together, your cell never stops swimming, and the last cell alive wins. You can try it free with no wallet and no sign-up.
The three things to know
- Trails kill. Your cell leaves a trail behind it. Touch any trail, yours or someone else's, and you are out.
- The arena shrinks. A red edge closes toward the centre. Cross it and you are out.
- The last cell wins. There are no points to collect. You only have to outlast everyone else.
Controls on a computer
- Steer: your cell swims toward the mouse pointer. The WASD or arrow keys also work.
- Boost: hold Space or Shift. Boost runs out, then refills by itself.
- Ability: press Q.
Controls on a phone
- Steer: put your thumb anywhere on the left half of the screen and drag.
- Boost: hold the Boost button.
- Ability: tap the button with your ability's name on it.
How to take someone out
You win fights with position, not by touching anyone. Swim across another cell's path so that it runs into your trail. A trail stays deadly for up to 5.5 seconds and then disappears, so the space behind a cell opens up again.
Boost and pickups
Boosting makes you more than twice as fast, but the trail you lay while boosting is wider. Glowing dots on the floor help you. In free practice they refill boost, make you faster for a moment or give a short overdrive. In paid rooms they refill boost.
Classes and abilities
Each class has one ability. You choose your class in the lobby of a paid room and the game remembers it, in practice too. Until you choose, you play Balanced.
- Balanced, normal speed. Shield: for 1.5 seconds trails cannot kill you, but the red edge still can. Ready again after 8 seconds.
- Sprinter, 40% faster. Dash: a very short burst of speed. Ready again after 3 seconds.
- Tank, 30% slower. Overdrive: your trail is twice as wide for 4 seconds. Ready again after 7 seconds.
Free practice
Practice is you against computer players (bots), with no money involved. Your first match has 3 bots, the next two have 5, and from your fourth match it is the full field of 7. Early bots are slower and the arena waits longer before it closes. You also get a few seconds of protection at the start: 3 seconds, or 8 on your very first match.
Tips for your first matches
- Do not boost just because you can. Keep some boost for getting out of trouble.
- Make wide turns. Your cell cannot turn on the spot, and tight loops run into your own trail.
- Watch the red edge and move toward the centre early.
